In the late part of spring, I was in the market for a new coffee table. I'd been using an ottoman the past couple of years and yearned for something that was a little sturdier. I really loved the look of a Pottery Barn® farmhouse-inspired coffee table (see pic below) but that model was discontinued. Not to mention, I wanted the look of that Pottery Barn® coffee table, but to pay only a quarter of the price so I started a hunt on Craigslist.
It took a good couple weeks of searching but I found a coffee table that had a very similar look. The base was already painted a country white but the top needed to be restained. (See pic below of the Craigslist coffee table)
Though this picture is misleading, the top had a "yellow" looking stain so I planned to re-stain it a dark walnut like my other living room furniture.
We sanded the top with a hand sander and restained it with MinWax's Dark Walnut. After letting that dry, my husband took 200 grit sandpaper, and distressed some portions of the top and edges and we sealed it with two thin coats of MinWax's Polyurethane in Satin.
I love the coffee table now not only because it matches with my other furniture, but i bought it used, so I don't stress if it gets dinged or scratched.
I hope you like it as much as I do!
